December 16, 2009

Well, a few updates I guess.

Got my brake lines installed and also removed the charcoal canister. Cleans everything up a whole lot.

The brake lines are from Maruha purchased from Chikaramotorsports. I took advantage of the sale and picked them up to complete my stainless line collection lol. One of the reasons why I bought them was because of the super high quality, and also the flexibility in the lines.

Demo:

I decided to clean up the engine bay a bit.. delete the charcoal canister to make some room. Also its not exactly necessary so I thought, why the hell not.

On with pictures:

Its not missing some black canister and a picture showing how the lines are now looped.

Maruha Brake Lines... 18,000 yen!

Check out the quality though, the machining marks are soooo nice. I almost didnt want to install them.

This is the rear passenger side brake line. This peice goes to the cube. Again... so nice. On the right is a view showing the O-ring and flexible joint.

Comparion of OEM vs. Maruha.

I think you can now see the difference in quality.

An installation picture.

Things suck shit. Not much to update about. Does anyone know the question to "Who am I?". Totally lost for once, what I thought was the world's most accurate compass turned out to be affected by the nearby mountain's magnetic B field.

November 04, 2009

Damn. Finally the first round of midterms are done (excluding the Finite Element Analysis one).

Feel like shit, totally not prepared for those exams and a few marks reflected it. Next round will be some 3/4 term tests and then the week of finals. I've told myself that I'm going to give it my best.

Also in two weeks will be the model contest. Some of the peices are in primer and the rest I will head to Sheldon's to finish off before priming. The deadline will be really close but thank god we have a day off on remembrance day.

I also recieved the first clutch line out from Ocean:

Awesome shiet. I think it looks pretty sexy personally. Gah.. can't wait for my car to be on the road again. I really miss driving "3 Horny Naked Girls" around. Driving the Escort I find is so dangerous. Maybe the chinese saying of driving a black car (coffin car) is true.

I attended a job fair as well with Kyle from my class. He's an awesome guy and definately knows his shit. By far his knowledge outweighs mine from a long shot.

Fuck, dunno how people stay so motivated in life doing the same repetitive routine day by day. Really makes me feel depressed for what life is to come but at the same time, hey. I don't need to pay for rent at least. More power to those who are, they know who they are.

Wish I still had the car to drive around late at night.. relaxing and just having that place of mind to find peace. Sometimes I kind of wonder how my life changed so drastically since highschool. But on the otherhand, do I enjoy my life now more? Blah, only time will tell.

Tomorrow is another Thursday. How I fucking hate seeing Alan Inglis' face twice in the same day. Seeing someone like him in industry, totally blows my mind. Like what the fuck? is that what I'm really training and learning to become? I don't really know what I enjoy more... working with my hands and making things, or solving problems in order for people to make things. Thats life for you... indecisions.

Shoutouts to Joe aka Chinaman and Jordan Fokz

October 25, 2009

Well, its been awhile since the last update.

Been busy with school for the most part, and the miata is stored for the fall/winter season. I really miss driving standard to be honest, its so boring with the automatic. I'm now driving the Escort around and to be honest, its not a bad beater. At least it comes with A/C, nice heater, roomy, easy to drive and dirt slow.

I'm in the middle of midterms week now, so trying to be productive and study.

Recently got some wheels and tires, sucks cuz I wont be able to make use of em till the spring and summer anyhow! Booo~ On other news I'm entering myself into a model building contest. I hope I can finish in time, the next two weeks will be super busy. More picture update when I have the chance.

September 6, 2009

Well, school will start in 2 days. Fun. I'm actually glad to be doing something that forces me to be productive and learn material well.

On another note, I feel like I may have jumped the gun with the miata in terms of modifications and such. Maybe for next season I will drive the car completely stock with a nice set of street tires (thinking AD08) .. definately need to learn the car a lot lot more to be fast. It's fun going back to driving a stock one to be honest because I learned to control the rotation of the car with throttle and steering combination quite well. I need to learn how to use the brakes for more rotation a lot better. It can definately help shaving off some time on your run.

No picture updates yet, but will update soon maybe with more school/random stuff. The car is planned to be stored for the winter and only bring it out on nice days... maybe I like miatas too much to drive it in rain and snow now. I'm looking at getting a beater for daily use and trashing.

More updates:

Got my short shifter from Winky after some trade bartering. It's a C's short shifter replica. This is my first experience with a short shifter so feedback should come later. For now its getting used to having such notchy shifting. Not used to it as I usually try to smooth as I can.

Look at the damage.... damn ricer and his hard shifting.

Came with all components, what can I say I'm happy I got one.

A bit overdue but I finally got some pics of the bracket Jason made. Absolutely love it, no more stupid plate blocking the radiator.

Was planning to go to autocross (last minute decision) but alas, no battery tie down = FAIL. Maybe will ask Jason to make a J-hook so it is tied down securely.

Aug 25, 2009

Last night I picked up this license plate bracket from a friend of a friend, Jason. This peice of metal is NICELY fabricated, a lot more than I was thinking it was. Even came painted!

Super sturdy, aluminum construction. And CUSTOMMM.. much better than Cusco in my bias opinion =P....

Pictures of it mounted later.

So I thought I would document one of the most basic maintenance proceedures.

The rotor on the right is the driver side front rotor. As you can see from the pic its pitted and scored pretty bad. Basically the pad compound never really grips and the only braking power comes from friction between the pad and the rotor pressing against one another. Nowadays brake technology is supposed to utilize the pad compound as well to create a "stickyness"

This is the new rotor after being cleaned in hot water. Notice the cross hatching hone marks. This set of rotors was pretty cheap, $80 for all 4 corners.

The rear rotor doesnt look as bad...

Uhh... look at the pad life left though.

And the pad composition. WTF?! Its pretty much a useless pad now. Chunking and became soft like cream.

This is how the rotors look brand new out of the package. Notice the smear marks are from the packaging grease so that they have a longer shelf life without corroding.

Decided to use this PBR brand brake pad for daily driver use. Its supposed to be pretty good and from what I can tell I like it more than the HAWK just in stop and go traffic.

While i'm at it might as well show what my old spark plugs look like. As you can see... =)
